The Muppet is getting bored with me and has decided to invite a new player every month. Our first guest is José Vilar, a good friend and excellent teacher who has chosen the following case:
“41 year old male with thalassemia minor who had a CT as a routine follow-up after an episode of pulmonary embolism three months previously.”
Diagnosis:
1. Pleural plaques 2. Fibrous mesothelioma 3. Scarring post-infarction 4. None of the above
Sixty-three year old male admitted to the Emergency Room with possible pulmonary embolism. Chest radiographs show a bulge in the descending aorta. Enhanced CT from the apex of the lungs to the diaphragmatic domes confirms the embolism. A more caudal axial CT shows a rounded opacity surrounding the aorta.
Diagnosis:
1. Neurofibromatosis
2. Lymphoma
3. Cystic lymphangioma
4. None of the above
Muppet is very frustrated about the previous case. He thought you would all diagnose it easily and says that if you don’t get the new one, he will retire to a nunnery…
Presenting a case chosen by the Muppet (beware: he is devious!).
Radiographs and face picture of a 52-year-old woman admitted to the emergency room with dyspnea. Radiographs before and after thoracentesis.
Chest radiograph seven years earlier (not available) reported as possible thymoma. No treatment since.
As ECR 2012 gradually draws nearer we’re carrying on with a close look at some of the hotels available through the ESR Travel Service booking platform, to find some of Vienna’s accommodation highlights. We’ve already given you the lowdown on the cheap-but-stylish Motel One, and now here’s one for those who like to keep their journey time to a minimum… the Hotel Kaiserwasser.
We have to admit it; the ESR social media team has had its eye on this big, round target for a while. Since starting the myESR Facebook page around two years ago, we have watched the little ticker marked ‘fans’ gradually get higher and higher. At some point, as we realised it would keep going, we started to set our sights on building a Facebook community that would reflect the size of the ESR. Our ‘fantasy’ aim: to gain 10,000 page likes by the start of ECR 2012.
Well, as it turns out, when a snowball starts rolling on Facebook, it tends to keep going…
Case #5 is also from my wife. It is a 27-year-old female with a chronic infiltrate in the right upper lobe. My Wife asked us (ordered, according to Muppet) to help her with the case, because she doesn’t know what it is.
ECR 2012 might still be several months away, but we know that many of you are already planning your trips to Vienna. With that in mind, we looked at some of the hotels available through the ESR Travel Service booking platform to find some of Vienna’s accommodation highlights. We picked out a few establishments to suit different requirements, to hopefully help you find a home-from-home for the congress. The first on our list? The Motel One.
